The Friska family is the biggest family at Suaq. The home ranges of Friska and her adult daughter Ellie are in the middle of the Suaq research area. This is why we follow Ellie and Friska the most and by now have more data on them than on any other female.
Friska and her progeny are exceptionally bold and fierce. For many years now and despite her advanced age, Friska seems to be dominant over the other females at Suaq. She regularly displaces other females and sometimes even males out of fruit trees or takes over their nests. Friska and her daughters are successful mothers, constantly adding new branches to their impressive family tree.
The Friska family usually has short, curly hair, that’s why in the field we call them the “frizzy hair” family.
