SOCP:

The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program SOCP is a joint program of the Swiss foundation PanEco and it’s partner foundation Yel, is located in Sumatra and implemented under a MoU with the Indonesian  Forestry Department. SOCP is fighting the extinction of the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and for the protection of the species habitat, the tropical rainforest. Aside from Suaq, SOCP runs three more research stations on Sumatra, one quarantine and two orangutan release stations, as well as projects in the areas of lobbying, law enforcement, and sensitization.

The work of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Zürich (AIM) is aimed at understanding the evolutionary origins of human morphology and behavior. With the AIM being one of the oldest Anthropological departments in Europe, Anthropology has a long tradition at the University of Zürich. When Carel van Schaik became the Director of the AIM in 2004, behavioral research on wild orangutans became one of the cornerstones of the AIM.
