„How am I supposed to eat THIS?!?“

Tornado had his first bark eating experience! He was watching his mom Tiara feeding on tree bark, then took a piece out of her hands and tried himself. He instantly decided that bark is not for him an threw the piece over his shoulders.

Bark is a fallback food for orangutans. In many areas, wild orangutans spend many weeks every year just eating bark when they have no other foods available. However, in Suaq there are many ripe fruits all year around so that the orangutans eat bark very rarely. Bark seems to be more like an optional digestive snack for the Suaq orangutan. Suaq infants like Tornado prefer to stick to juicy fruits.
